"Now that ceaseless exposure has calloused us to the lewd and the vulgar, it is instructive to see what still seems wicked to us."
- Hannibal

in a dark mood. think i'm going to go drink a beer with strangers. i should have moved out here with at least one other person because it's hard to want to go explore the nightlife on my own. i ain't much into meeting people, but i do enjoy listening to strangers tell me their life stories. i especially like it when i can tell where their life story is heading and when they're trying to made certain parts more dramatic. i treat it alot like fiction. not that they're liars, liars are a whole other animal, it's just natural for someone to search for meaning in their past.

i'm writing something right now that's very dark. we're talking dark. i'm not in it for shock value but sometimes the urge to shock is pretty strong. this story won't survive. it was dead at birth but i'm going to force it. gotta put the shit away for awhile though.

you know, when i think about how people's emails and messages and posts ride sort of a wave of frequent then sparse then nothing then a flood, i'm thinking i know why: when someone is excited or happy about something, they sit down and crank out a couple pages, when they aren't, they continue to read everything they're sent, they just don't have the energy to respond. not that this is a revelation but what i realized is that it's just the opposite with me. whenever i feel negative or frustrated, you'll get 10 pages. when i'm up, you only get 5. i think that might be the case with most writers, this willingness to write when they're angry separates them from the masses. most people get excited about a cd or compliment they got that day and they don't know why but they feel the urge to hammer out some mail.

Brittany Murphey looks like a crack rat to me. i thought she was cute in Freeway and didn't even realize this new smirking twitching creature was even her. this new spiderman cartoon ain't that bad. it's no Maxx though. remember The Maxx? i found that cartoon oddly touching. got the videotape packed away here somewhere. maybe i'll dig it out.

this Muse CD? Showbiz? this is exactly what you disgrunted people were looking for when you bought Kid A. this is what you wanted when you bought Amnesiac from those snake oil salemen. it's getting hard to find but seek it out. download some songs if you can. check out "Muscle Museum" and "Sunburn." that's right, i'm not scared of the hits. Sunburn just sounds fucking great with that piano intro. (rose, you can use it to flashback to your own sunburn trauma) it's hard and melodic. good shit. i like to get into shit about a year later. drives my friend steve crazy. he's too cool for school with his music. right now i'm guessing he's listening to some unsigned band from Chad and would throw it away if anyone else had heard of it.

hey no way. Queens of the Stone Age are in town. i'll have to track that concert down. Songs For The Deaf was in my top three this year. or was that last year? i actually picked that up the first week because of their other two. you gotta love those low-tuned guitars. songs about the desert don't hurt either.

holy shit, i just found my diploma. now if i can just find a certain notebook i'm set. it's friday. i need to venture out i think. like House of Pain said, "when it's time to rock a funky joint, i'm on point!" or, as the nursery rhyme goes:

"If you want to live and thrive, let a spider run alive..."
